Let's talk about Boosters!

We all know that nappies (disposable or cloth) should be changed every couple of hours but there are times that this is just not possible and who wants to wake a child who has fallen asleep in the car just to change their nappy because it is 'time'?!...

My son is what I call a fast wetter so I needed something that would absorb the liquid quickly and then be able to hold it.  I tried lots of variations before I came up with this system which has a hidden layer of zorb (the fabric which absorbs in super fast time) and then 1 layer of bamboo.  The soaker then has  layers of bamboo which can be folded in half or shorter lengths of 3.

Nappy cuts

It has been a super busy and productive weekend making nappy cuts ready for sewing together.   I have had such fun playing with the fabrics and colours - there are so many divine fabrics out there to choose from!

Some of these are full minky cuts and others are a cotton and minky mix which I have experimented on using different cutting and sewing techniques.   Having free rein to put together whatever I want is not only time consuming (because I keep changing my mind and then changing it back again haha) but also amazingly satisfying.

Some of these will end up as 'give away testers'

A quiet child is probably up to mischief

When a child is quiet it generally means that they doing something that they shouldn't!

I thought Baby MoonSticks was 'reading' quietly in my bedroom while I sorted through the laundry.   When I double checked I found him smothering himself with cream!  After my 3 previous children have all done the same thing you would have thought that I had learnt my lesson - do NOT leave creams in reach of small hands.

Luckily no harm was done and no cat was involved (as in the case of my daughter and her friend at the same age) but Mama will be keeping a closer eye on him in future.

Taking a break from sewing tonight to watch The Woman in Black tonight with my eldest son - I am not normally a 'scary film' kind of gal so wish me luck haha.

Testers ready for their new owners

3 of the large tester nappies sewn up and ready for their boosters.

Fingers crossed these testers will be out next week.  Looking forward to seeing how well they hold up on different shapes other than baby MoonSticks.

If anyone is interested in receiving one of these gorgeously soft nappies then please 'like' me on Facebook and I will let you kow when they are ready.

Overlocking overload!

This is my overlocker - we shall call her Jerry (after a lady who I admire greatly).   We will have to think of a name for the sewing machine another time.... Naming your machine helps you bond with it according to other people in the sewing world - we will have to wait and see.

I have a massive pile of cut bamboo ready to be overlocked and made into soakers.   The first couple were not completely flat, as you can see to the left of Jerry and thus followed a huge internet search to find the answer.  In the end I remembered that I had adjusted the differential feeds and found the answer to my problem - some days are blonder than others in my head (no offence meant to blondies of course)!

The new boosters are now f-l-a-t and ready to be married up with the boosters and then they can be packed off to their new owners.

The Nappy!

I am so pleased with the way this one turned out - elastics (normally my Achilles heel) turned out great, I guess it is true what they say... practise does make perfect.
This is the final design and I am so happy with the fit and shape. I did try another design which I also loved and may well introduce in the future.
Made with kind permission of the creator of Fattycakes nappies/diapers and using an embroidered nappy cut from Kellie@Plush Addict.

Oh the places you'll go!.

Who doesn't love Dr Seuss?  I was so lucky to find this red and white striped minky to match cheeky Mr Cat in the Hat.

FABRIC DELIVERY!!!!!

FABRIC DELIVERY!!
Oh my goodness I get so happy to see my postie when I know fabric on its way!   Some absolutely delicious cottons and minky fabrics arrived last week and I can't wait to get creative and play with them to find the best colour combos.

Nappies

Some nappies I have made for baby MoonSticks recently.  I don't have an embroidery machine but have found a lovely lady who can do nappy cuts so I have been scouring the Urban Threads pages for designs... there are 1000's!!  The tester nappies will be 'workhorse' nappies, which I also make for baby MoonSticks but I did have fun playing with these cotton and minky colours.

MoonSticks Logo

MoonSticks logo by one of my sons.

Welcome to the first post on my MoonSticks blog - I think that I will update and post photos here rather than clog up the facebook news feed!  I have loads of photos and tons of exciting fabrics to work with and I am looking forward to get my creative groove on.

Everything is progressing nicely here at MoonSticks central.  The large sized nappy testers are almost ready go out - they are just waiting for their boosters to be made.

My over locker arrived last weekend so I have been getting to grips with it  (it is something else!) and the loving the professional results.  Over locked boosters look sooooo much better that machined ones.

Baby MoonSticks has just woken so I will post more photos later - thanks for reading.

On another note - if anyone can help with web design then I would be grateful for any help please.  I can't pay you but if you are looking for some work experience then I'm your gal!  Any cloth wearers who also do web design I would be happy to pay in nappies haha.
